My name is Michele Shapiro. I am an occupational therapist working on a doctorate and have been very fortunate to have found the Snoezelen approach to therapy.

The Worldwidesnoezelen conference was a major succes!

The conference "Snoezelen in Practise" at october 3 & 4 in Heel, Holland was a major success. Over 300 professionals participate the conference. Most handouts and presentations of the workshops and lectures are already online. Every day we will update this list for you.
We also will publish a online evaluation form this month.

Better Living Through Snoezelen at Beth Israel New York

Though Snoezelen is, in fact, a new method for treating dementia'autism, say, or Alzheimer's it's a very gentle technique, with no pain and no side effects.

Here we show you an innovative example of a Snoezelunit which is located at the back of school classroom. Children follow lessons in the front of the room. The School is located in Zwolle Holland.

Voorbeeld Thematisch Snoezelen:    Het Peuterproject

Op afdeling ..... wonen dertig demente ouderen die allen in een vergevorderd stadium van dementie verkeren. Dit betekent dat alle bewoners in hun eigen wereld leven en dat wij (zorgverleners) proberen binnen die wereld contact te maken met de bewoners. Dit contact maken gebeurt voornamelijk door middel van verbaal en non-verbaal contact en allerlei zintuigprikkelende materialen. Tevens wordt er ingespeeld op alle basisbehoeften die een mens heeft.

Since the introduction of the Snoezelen, or Sensory Environment, into the UK, there has been widespread interest within many aspects of health care, along with the expansion of its use within learning disability and mental health settings. The purpose of this book is to consolidate the experience and evidence collected by a number of users in the field who have pioneered the approach within their own specialist areas and many of whom are actively involved in the dissemination of the concepts through the Snoezelen World Wide Foundation. Each chapter therefore describes the application of Snoezelen environments in a particular field and the implications of setting up a Snoezelen facility, along with exploration of appropriate concepts and evidence collected from practice with guidance and recommendations for those who may wish to take on board the approach. The book is designed to provide a useful guide to anyone who may be considering setting up this facility within their own practice area.
