Michele Shapiro is the Director of the Snoezelen and of environmental design at Beit Issie Shapiro, Raanana, Israel.

She has been an occupational therapist for thirty years. Since 1993, she has specialized in sensory processing dysfunctions and their effect on behavior. In 1997 she published a research paper on the efficacy of the Snoezelen for children with mental retardation.

 

She is currently studying for a doctorate, specializing in the area of sensory processing dysfunctions. In 2001 she received a recognition award in occupational therapy in Israel . She initiated the beginning of Snoezelen in Israel in 1993.

 

Today she develops projects and trains staff to understand the Snoezelen approach.
