Background knowledge and application possibilities

1. What are aromas and what is aromatherapy?

Flavourings are natural substances that are formed by plants during photosynthesis. During the day they make plants under the influence of sunlight and water using chlorophyll (in the green leaves) sugars. During further processes more complicated structures and the glucose is converted to arise aromas.

The word aroma refers to the scented aspect.

Other words that refer to the same product, are: essential oil and essential oil. Ethereal oil refers to the volatility of the material and essential oil refers to the essence/the soul force of the plant. The essential oil is of vital importance to the plant. The oil forms a storehouse of energy, is the carrier of information, control of the temperature and protector against bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Essential oils are highly concentrated substances. Depending on the plant where they are won out and the way of mining, they are incredibly cheap to very expensive. In comparison, for eucalyptus globulus leaves you have 50 kg to 1 liter of essential oil; for dandruff you have 5000 kg rose petals needed for 1 liter of essential oil.

Aromatherapy is for working with aromas/essential or essential oils on therapeutic basis: working according to a particular treatment plan, systematic, with a particular purpose in support of the total man. It is a holistic treatment method.

In working with demented people is aromatherapy an interesting development. Demented people have withdrawn themselves from the reality, are sometimes hardly approachable and respond sometimes little on incentives. Smells the most primitive part of the man to speak. In addition, people rarely or never react neutral on scents. Demented people react quite strong on smells.

Attraction or repulsion are individually and have to deal with the youth of the relevant person or very specific memories. It is therefore important that the health care provider has knowledge of the past of the client and his/her specific odor preferences. If this do not know, one can be come out soon enough: keep a bottle of flavor under the nose of the demented continue and this will turn his face to the toewenden or bottle. Then you already know enough.

In aromatherapy are currently 300 aromas/essential oils available.
